Telkom debits me for wireless activation fee that did not apply to my contract despite my taking up the matter
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S6 on a Telkom mobile contract. I was told that there was no activation fee for this contract, as was also specified in the Telkom flyer. Imagine my surprise when in the first invoice that was emailed to me a few weeks later, there appeared a 'Wireless Activation Fee' for R200. I went to the Telkom store where I made the purchase (Tygervalley Centre) and showed the invoice to a customer service rep. After checking in her computer, she confirmed that I should not have been charged this fee. However, she said she could not cancel the fee herself. I would need to bring a hard copy of the invoice together with a copy of my ID. Seemed like an unnecessary hassle but I brought the invoice and ID copy the next day. They told me they had logged the matter and I would get an SMS within 7 days confirming that the issue had been resolved. I never got any SMS, but I decided to wait until the debit order went off and hope that the fee had been deducted. Well, the debit order just went off, and it included the R200 fee! This is hugely frustrating. What exactly does one have to do in order to not be charged a R200 activation fee that the flyer said did not apply, the salesperson said did not apply, and the customer service representative confirmed did not apply when I queried the matter in store?
