Telkom Debit Order Deducting More Than Maximum Amount Stipulated
I'm writing this review on behalf of my dad as the mentioned Telkom contracts are in his name.
In February 2017 Telkom announced a "Big Deal" which includes a Huawei E5537 MiFi router with 15GB data (10 GB of the data is Night Surfer data) for 24 months @ R149 per month. Seeing the value in the deal, my dad decided to sign for 3 such contracts with Telkom. He didn't order the deal online but rather went to a branch to purchase and sign for the deals, upon signing for the deals he asked what happens when the data runs out and was assured multiple times that you won't have further internet access unless you top up the account.
At the end of October he was billed R641 instead of the usual R447 for the 3 contracts; November's bill was even higher - R1 436. This amount is excessively high and he phoned Telkom to find out where this suddenly comes from; the consultant informed him that we used more data than what was allocated in the data bundles and that an account is capped after depletion of data bundles and a further R500 usage. (This after being assured multiple times that internet will be cut off after data bundles are depleted.) The consultant also stated that, "it's always been like that." This is intrue as I've depleted data bundles in previous months and have had no internet access until I purchased more data via my banking app - The bill for those months also remained the agreed R447.
I took to social media platforms and found that other customers are in the EXACT same situation: Sudden increases in amounts deducted from accounts for Telkom debit orders and being told the same story by consultants; that an out of bundle feature has been activated, only capping an account after a further R500 has been used. This is thievery in its most subtle form, Telkom. Disgusting.
Here is a summary of my issues with this situation: 1. The account not being capped after the depletion of data bundles after being assured multiple times that this is what would happen. 2. Not being notified via redirection that data bundles have been depleted and out of bundle rates are applicable. 3. The amount of money deducted for the debit order being more than what was written and signed for on the original contract. 4. Out of bundle features being enabled/activated without prior knowledge and consent.
Please assist with this matter, Telkom. Your ways are ********* and it's ridiculous to suddenly deduct almost 3 times the usual amount from a customer's account.
