Telkom Contract - Number porting issue - Terrible service!
I'm writing this complaint on behalf of my husband. He has been a Telkom prepaid customer since 2016. At the end of November 2018, he app**** for a cellphone contract on their CyberMonday specials at R149 pm. My husband informed the sales agent via telephone that he wants to keep his existing Telkom cell number, and she assured him that it will be possible - all that he had to do was to contact the Telkom call centre once he has received his new cellphone package and they will activate the new sim card on his existing number. When my husband received the package, he contacted the call centre just to be informed that they will not be able to assist him over the telephone and he had to go in to the branch to arrange the porting of his number to the new sim card. This problem was eventually sorted out and the new cell phone contract's sim card worked up until 3 weeks ago. Then the next problem started - when you dial my husband's cell number it says " Your number is not available on the MTN network" - what the heck??! He has a Telkom sim, why is he getting this message relating to MTN? My husband then went in to the branch again and the agent informed him that there was an error that occurred during the importing process between Telkom and MTN and his number was obviously affected by it - it was a countrywide issue apparently. He was assured that it would be resolved by the following week - well guess what - it has still not been resolved. He then went in to the local branch again last weekend, just to be told that the problem has still not been resolved on their system and that they apologise for the inconvenience. Then today, he received a call from Telkom requesting him (my husband) to get hold of MTN to ask them to activate his number again. Why must my husband contact MTN to resolve the issue if Telkom was at fault!? We are not happy at all, and require that this be resolved by Telkom urgently. My husband can make calls from his sim, but nobody can get hold of him on his number as it says the number no longer exists on the MTN network. How are people suppose to contact him? Telkom - please resolve this urgently by contacting my husband at work on ********** 100 as you won't be able to get hold of him on his contract phone number. Thanks
