Telkom is very keen to contract with unsuspecting members of the public, but once you have a contract with them it is almost impossible to have it cancelled. I have a FreeMe unlimited contract with Telkom that is expiring on 31 January 2025. On 25 November 2024, I went to their Queens Corner store in Pretoria and asked for my contract to be cancelled. I received an early cancellation penalty of R580, which I duly paid and thought my contract was cancelled. I received another invoice at the beginning of December 2024 for the full value of the monthly contract charges. When I enquired telephonically on 5 December 2024 (after holding on for more than 30 minutes), I was told that the bill was for November 2024 and that my contract has been cancelled, but that I had to pay the full outstanding amount before 6 December 2024 to avoid interest and possible black listing. I paid the outstanding amount on the same day using Telkom's website. On 5 January 2025 I received another invoice for the full amount. Today I went back to Telkom's Queens Corner store only to be told that the contract has not been cancelled. I asked for it to be cancelled again and asked for proof of cancellation. I was told that nothing to prove cancellation could be sent or printed as the Telkom system is not set up to do so. The agent gave me a printout showing that I have been moved to 8TA (prepaid) more from 6 January 2025. I am now waiting with bated breath to see whether I will be charged for another month. TELKOM, THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE
