Telkom Contract Affecting Credit Profile

I took a contract for a mobile device with Telkom on a 24month repayment contract. When the contract period ended, they continued to debit my back account and upon making a telephonic enquiry regarding this ongoing debit - I was advised to go on to their website and request to cancel the contract which I did and received an SMS confirming the request had been logged. The consultant also informed me that the last debit would be at the end of that particular month which I never disputed despite the contract period having ended months prior to that call. Needless to say, that supposedly last debit order went off successfully. 2 months after this I get spammed by a legal company stating that they were calling me on behalf of Telkom for an account that was handed over to them. I explained that I no longer have an account with Telkom and that my contract with them ended and I sent them the reference number I received on the SMS that confirmed my cancellation of the account as they had advised when the contract ended. Despite this explanation, this legal company continued to harass me every morning and the same explanation was given until at some point the eventually stopped. The next thing I am informed that Telkom reported the account to be ‘in default” of payment to credit beurau, affecting my credit record and profile when I had never missed a single payment during the contract period and despite allowing them to continue to debit my account after the contract ended and even after I had made a cancellation request. Now I have to suffer the consequences of having such a negative reflection on my credit profile because of Telkom’s inability to communicate cancellations effectively with their accounts handling department. I regret ever taking any deal with Telkom and I certainly would not encourage anyone to do so.
