Telkom continues to ***** money from my account and won't stop!!!
In June 2014 I went on a 24-month Telkom 10G LTE package at R399 per month. Prior to termination date I called Telkom to check on contract status and asked if a written notice would be required from me should I wish not to renew the contract. I was told if not renewed, the contract would simply continue on a monthly basis which could then be terminated on a 30-day notice. Months later I started getting calls claiming from Telkom informing me of contract expiry and offering to sell me new packages. I declined as I decided to keep it month by month for the time being. In January b2017 I decided to go for Telkom’s promotional unlimited Wifi package @R799/month and started contacting Telkom to find out how to go about that. After many calls I ended up with a lady from “upgrade department”, who however said I must speak to sales department because “upgrade department did not handle any unlimited Wifi contract”. After speaking to probably a dozen agents/staff, it was eventually established that I should do a new contract and submit a cancellation form on the old contract. I was also told cancellation could only be done in person at a Telkom store. After the new contract was done, I went to Telkom Eastgate store on 2017/01/21 for cancellation. The store manager helped processing the “Consumer Request for Contract and Service Cancellation” form in my presence. He also assured me that the cancellation would become effective immediately because the old contract already expired and I was still staying with Telkom on a more expensive package anyways. I got a case number and ********** 4 and for record purpose, I had a copy of the cancellation form emailed to ********** Of course, what I was to receive was the same old automatic reply without real human follow-up. At end of February R1198 went off my debit order, which would be the aggregate of R399 for the old service number and R799 for the new service number. I thought maybe after all Telkom did require 3 weeks to finalize the cancellation. So I was fine with being billed on both for the month of February. However, since then and in the months to follow, the monthly debit order of R1198 has never stopped, except it went from R1198 to R1098 since June. In between I had spoken to various Telkom agents/staff from customer care and account for help but all to no avail. I was told the system showed the old contract being 36-month and therefore it could only be cancelled in June 2017 and as a result, the monthly debit order on that part would continue until end of June. One lady from cancellation department, whilst arguing on the 36-month thing she said she saw on the system, had promised to investigate and revert back to me after I told her I had never and would never engage myself in any mobile/data contract longer than 24-months and that if what she saw on the system was real, then the only possibility would be mishap by Telkom staff during contract and data capturing process, for which I should not be held accountable. After hearing nothing from that lady, I contacted her with two follow-up mails which she simply totally stopped responding to. After that, again, I ended up speaking to several other Telkom agents/staff to no avail. Eventually I ended up speaking to a friendly Indian male customer care agent who was willing to handle my query both telephonically and in writing by giving me his email address. I repeated the whole issue to him, emphasizing if a supposedly 24-month contact being captured as 36-month, instead of having me held liable for mishandling by its staff during their contract data capturing process, Telkom should have how such thing could even happen in the first place. This agent then said “actually all Telkom’s 10G LTE promotion packages in the year 2014 only came in a 36-month option and there was never a 24-month option for 10G LTE throughout the entire 2014. To prove him wrong, I found relevant 2014 promotion material on the internet, had the screen shot and link emailed him – Telkom definitely had 24-month 10G LTE package on offer in the year 2014!! After receiving my email, he said he would definitely have this issue escalated to his manager for resolution. He further said “even if based on a 36-month period the old contract would have become due for upgrade in January 2017 anyways”. His conclusion was that regardless the old contract being 24-month or 36-month, I should not be billed for that old contract after the new contract/upgrade kicked in. He reassured me that he would personally take care of this case until it was resolved. And that was in May 2017. When I heard nothing from him, I emailed him – twice but without ever hearing from him ever again!! The same R1198 continues to going off my account at end of June, end of July, end of August and probably will carry on forever. I need Telkom to explain to me on their ********* business behavior and let me know how they will resolve this issue without jeopardizing my rights. As a victim who has been suffering abuse and money ******ion from Telkom for more than half a year, Telkom surely owes me an answer and closure. For reference: Cancellation case number ********** 4, service number cancelled was ********** 158. P.s. hellopeter.com wouldn't let me move on to Next page without selecting at least 1 star rating first. I'd only agree with that if 1 start is the lowest score in the history of hellowpeter.com
