Telkom – Charging for services not rendered – November 2016 to March 2017

Telkom – Charging for services not rendered – November 2016 to March 2017

In November 2016 a mi-fi router contract was purchased from Telkom as a Christmas gift for my family residing in Kriel. I am unable to connect to the Internet. I have called Telkom numerously to report the problem. On 28 January 2017 I lost it completely as I am charged monthly for the contract. (November, December, January and February. I am still unable to use the device and the data that I pay for as the device is unable to connect.

An Agent at customer care was very helpful in trying to assist me with settings to try and connect, but to no avail. After an hour on the telephone, the agent informed me that she thinks it might be because Kriel is outside of the reception area for Telkom. We then tried connecting though other Networks such as MTN and Vodacom, but to no avail. The agent gave up and said I must go to a Walk in Branch. I explained that I went that route already and the Branch just said they cannot help me, I must call customer care. She then logged a call ( ********** 8) and said that Telkom will send out a technician within 2 working days. I explained the logistics that I reside in Pretoria, but the device was purchased as a gift for my family in Kriel. She recorded all details. It seems as if the incident was re-directed and I received another case number ( ********** 7) .

After approximately 3 days someone from Telkom did call back, but I unfortunately just missed the call, as I was busy with renovations at home and therefore did not carry my mobile with me. The caller left a voice message indicating that he called back and my query is resolved and closed as they were unable to reach me. I subsequently received a SMS indicting that my query was dealt with successfully. Oh WOW!!!

I am still paying for the device and data, but there is still no internet connection. I again tried to resolve the issue through a walk in branch, but was referred back to Customer Care. The Branch said they were off line and unable to log a call on my behalf. I again tried calling customer service earl y in February, but was unable to get through. On 3 March 2016 I went back to the branch in Brooklyn Mall where the contract was purchase. I again was informed that they are unable to assist and I must log a call by dialling 081180. I again explained to the consultant what happended and if I cal 081180 I am informed to go to the branch. If I go to the branch then I am informed to dial 081180. I requested the consultant to PLEASE log a call on my behalf. I am still going in circles.

How does one resolve a problem like this? This is over and above the billing issues that I am battling to sort out. (I was charged for caller Identification on a mi-fi router. Hello!!! The CLI seems to have been removed from monthly bill as from end January. I also still did not receive a refund for the over charge in November. I was supposed to be billed pro-rata, but was charged in full although the device was only obtained in the middle of November.)

Are there any consumers out there with the same issues? Should we not stand together like the Ford Kuga owners ?

Hello Busi,
I tried to return your missed calls 012 668 888 and ********** 980, these numbers seemed to be locked from receiving inbound calls. My cell was on silent as I was in a meeting from 11 to 12h30 and therefore missed your calls.
Please call me back on either my landline or cellular number. (Cell ********** Tel ********** ). The address where the device is kept is at 14 Koraan street, Kriel. The device is with my sister Adrie Janse van Rensburg at this address. I re-iterate that I live and work in Pretoria. If you need to test the device you may call my sister Adrie on landline 017 ********** . Why did the sales person not tell me that the device will not be able to work in certain reception areas.? I specifically asked the question to the sales lady who in return responded as follows: “ yes you can use the device anywhere in the country.”
Regards
Jeannette
