Telkom changes contract without approval
We were at a telkom store to try and sort out a landline issue that is still not sorted since October 2019. While I was with a consultant, another consultant approached my wife telling her she could upgrade her mobile contract. In agreed in principle and told my wife to look for a deal that was cheaper than the current contract. one was found that would cost R21 less than the one she had. Telkom had a tenth anniversary sale at the time (20 Nov till 31 Dec) but with the latest account I also noticed that the monthly cost was not R229 as per their ad, but R268 which I did not agree to. We also had a spend limit of R1 to make our previous contract a round R250. The consultant changed the limit (might be an automatic amount) to R1500 and adding to that the increased monthly premium and also the early upgrade penalty, the account came to R1918.00 which is an amount that I as a pensioner cannot afford. I dont get increases in pension and i work on a very tight budget. That limit of R1 we had for about 10 years, was increased by the consultant without my consent and without pointing out that the R1 limit will no longer be app****. I also opted for the cheaper package because my wife lost her job in july as a direct cause of the Covid 19 pandemic. her job was made redundant. on the previous contact we had unlimited telkom to telkom calls and my wife did make calls looking for work, thinking that she had airtime to spend( line was cut when limit was reached on previous contract). This whole episode made me angry also because we could not get help from the telkom store in our town(white river) or the customer care department. We had to drive to Nelspruit to speak to a manager there, who promised to help me out because he accepted that his consultant coerced my wife to do an upgrade knowing that it was not yet time. He also agreed that the way she handled the upgrade was not above board and not done right. My wife was placed under the impression that it was time for an upgrade and that the upgrade was much cheaper than normal because of their 10th anniversary. My wife joined Telkom Mobile when they were still 8ta (about 10 years ago) because of the benefits of calling telkom numbers for free. Her family all went over to telkom to make family communication easier. In all these years she never had an issue with Telkom mobile and convinced so many people to go over to telkom, thereby marketing them. As a long standing customer and because the branch manager agreed that that the deal was not done properly, i think that telkom should take blame for the mistakes of their employees. I have proof of the deal we wanted to take and Telkom also dont want to adjust the monthly premium. I feel that telkom should credit my account and adjust my contract to the agreed R229 per month instead of the R269 per month they now claim. I also did not get a copy of the contract because I agreed to receive it via email. It never arri9ved and I also lost my 7 day cooling-off period because of that. Please help me solve this mess.
