Telkom can't spell customer service!

Never, ever get a Telkom fixed/ADSL line because once you have one they make it virtually impossible to get rid of it. Their procedure to cancel it is as follows:

1) Call the call centre to inform them you want to terminate the DSL line. They will then inform you to call back the next month.

2) When you call a month later they will inform you that you can not do this over the phone you have to go to a Telkom outlet to get the cancellation form. (Apartently this form can not be send via email, you have to pick it up in person showing your ID!)

3) After collecting the form in the Telkom outlet you may complete it there, but they can not accept it on behalf of Telkom, nor can they process your cancellation on one of their many terminals. You need to scan it in, with a copy of your ID document, and then email it to ********** note the difficult spelling of the address. (Aparently the un-emailable form does become emailable once you have filled it in with a pen and scanned it.)

4) I am not sure about step 4 but I will keep you posted.

Pity someone without a scanner and an email account, they will NEVER be able to cancel their Telkom line!

Apparently it takes 21 business days, that is more than one calendar month (!) for Telkom to attend to any request to cancel a service, or that is what the email states I just received. Fortunately we do not have a stop order on this account, we will just stop paying them for their non-existing service.

Ilhaam from Telkom responded: "Good day Johannes, Thank you for making contact with us. Please be assured that this matter has been escalated to our Fulfillment team. Your reference number for this query is AI ********** . We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Kind regards, Ilhaam Telkom Social Media" Needles to say that the issue has not been dealt with or even a response generated. I am just glad that we do not have a Telkom debot order running, so we will just stop pay for their non-existing service with "non-existing" money.
