Telkom cancels contract without notification

Telkom cancels my phone month to month phone contract without any communications from them in doing so. When we actually realized why my phone is not working, they said they can reinstate the number but will take between 7 - 21 working days. Why do I need to be without a phone for that amount of time for their mistake!!!!!
