Telkom Cancellation Policy - LUDICROUS!!!

"Ludicrous" - so foolish, unreasonable, or out of place as to be amusing.

I investigated what it would cost to terminate my 3 year LTE contract with Telkom as sold to me via the Sell Direct service. I was informed by both the Centurion mall brach and the call centre that the penalty for early termintation is the full term paid up and an additional R800. Therefore forcing one to serve out the term (as this is the financially cheaper option) and thereby negating any right to cancel.

This is daylight ****gery and against the CPA regulation 5(3). Adding to this is the violation of Regulation 5(1) which in effect states that the supplier has to show a demonstrable financial benefit to the consumer if a fixed term contract of more than 24 months is taken up - which, I aver, was not done.

My frustration with Telkom has slowly been escalating over the 19 month period as the LTE signal has been so unreliable that I limited my router to 3G only - this being under a coverage area that is more pink than the Bull's jerseys.

With the roll out of fibre in Pretoria I though that I would easily solve all my connection woes but this cancellation policy of Telkom is ridiculous.

I have noted that Telkom is quick to attend to these sorts of posts and I sincerely hope that the Telkom employees are insufficiently trained and that they in fact advised my incorrectly.

Hope to hear from you soon Telkom.

Alternativly I'll request the National Consumer Tribunal to intervene.
