Telkom cancel orders without giving full implications of related costs
I don't even want to give them one star! Beware everyone. They are moving off fixed lines to radio phones. I app**** for a transfer of my landline as I was moving house, about 2 months before the date. One week before I moved, Telkom sent me an sms: "Transfer order ... will be cancelled due to infrastructure constraints. You may apply for Telkom wireless service call 10213 or visit your nearest Telkom outlet. Thank you. Telkom". I went to the Telkom shop, and got a modem and data, as radio phones are problematic at my new address. NOW I've had an account for the old line, as they say I never cancelled it! But that line was dead the morning I moved. I checked specifically. Therefore, I assumed it had been cancelled, and thought no more of it till today. After all, if you are requesting a transfer because you're moving that means you can't use the old line, right? So I assumed that cancellation of the old line had happened, and all I had to do was make another plan for a new service. I was wrong. YOU HAVE TO CANCEL YOUR LINE AS A SEPARATE ACTION ALTOGETHER! AND you have to give them 30 days notice of a cancellation - even though this is implicit in a transfer request. I now have to cancel the line online (about 11 weeks from my initial request for a transfer, and 3 weeks after the transfer date requested), and I have to pay for about 2 extra months that I haven't used the line (the 3 weeks already past, and the month starting today) - about R800. This is *****!!!!!
