Telkom ********* Business Practices

In July 2024, I formally requested Telkom to terminate my mobile accounts due to experiencing financial difficulties. As part of this arrangement, I agreed to make monthly payments of R500 until the account was settled. At that time, the account balance was slightly over R3700.

However, in August 2024, I received a revised bill amounting to approximately R6400, which was nearly double the original amount. Upon contacting Telkom for clarification, I was informed that this increase was attributed to outstanding device charges, which had not been previously disclosed to me; the agent had only referenced the amount of R3700. Despite my initial dispute, I deemed the overall assessment reasonable and continued to fulfill my commitment of paying R500 monthly.

Subsequently, I was approached by Nudebt, who claimed to have been appointed by Telkom to collect all outstanding debts. I explained that I had an arrangement in place. When I contacted Telkom again, I was advised to continue making my payments and to disregard communications from Nudebt. Despite this guidance, I continued to receive numerous reminders via email, telephone calls, and text messages from Nudebt. Following the instructions provided by Telkom, I chose to ignore these communications and maintained my monthly payment of R500.

On May 1, 2025, Telkom debited the full outstanding amount of over R8000 from my bank account without prior notification or authorization. I believe this action to be both ********* and ********. I have spent an entire day attempting to reach Telkom for clarification regarding this deduction and to understand the rationale behind it, especially given that I have been consistently making my agreed-upon payments. Unfortunately, I have encountered challenges as agents have been unable to access my account. I find myself in a difficult situation and kindly request your advice on how to proceed.

I would like to bring to your attention that the amount deducted from my account was intended for my rent. As a result, I am now facing an eviction notice. I appreciate your understanding in this matter.
