Telkom beware when you have cancel the service!

I would just like to share my experience with potential customers that considering Telkom as a service provider. Generally they are cheaper that the other service providers so making sales very attractive to potential customers. Unfortunately in my case the complex I lived at had the restriction enforcing a land line to be connected to the security gate. When I relocated I had to cancel the service (only done on the website by the way) one month in advance. I did log my notice on the website on the 4th September 2018 (4 days late) that I will no longer need their service form 1st October 2018. My monthly account was R604.25 for the month of September. With my R700.00 deposit in tact is was a simple calculation for me that the balance of my deposit would be paid over into my account eventually. Well I never received my final invoice (normally mailed to me) but did receive communication that my cancellation instruction was received. Telkom being what they are I did not expect a speedy resolve to finalize the matter. This week I app**** for finance and was gobsmacked to receive the information form the bank that my credit record was effected by a outstanding amount of R1389.63 due to Telkom. Without any communication whatsoever from Telkom of any monies due to them my credit record have been tarnished. Big corporate company vs individual. When I approached them about this at the sales office the gave me the brackdown that I was charges for October 2018 and interest charged for arrears amounts? Is this the way business works? When I offered to pay the difference R1389.63 - R700 = R689.63 they did not want to accept it. I must pay full outstanding amount and then they will reimburse the deposit whenever they seem fit? Any advise of handling this issue and to get my name cleared at credit bureau again. Moral of the story - sharp service to get you signed on but beware when you need to end the service! Regards

Peter
