Telkom are ******
I have app**** for an adsl internet package on month to month of R598.00 on the 19 September 2018 and the coverage in my area only allows me 2mbps. Since then I've been calling once a week to follow up with the tracking number ( ********** 01A) which they provided me via sms. I called telkom again on the 15 October 2018 to follow up and they told me the technician are busy on the box to check the infrastructure, once this process is done they will make an appointment with me. I've made another call to telkom on the 19 October 2018 to to follow up and I was told to pay R734 deposit for installation, and when I asked them what will be installed because the line already exist they told me its just for the technician to come out to my house. I did not agree with this as I needed clarity. I took the time to walk to a Telkom store in cape town and explained my situation. The agent on the floor explained that the R734 will be towards installation and I asked what they will install because the line already exist and there is nothing for a technician to install as I only want the phone to be activated then the story changed to being a deposit. I asked if the deposit of R734 will come off my bill as credit and I was told that the R734 was for security because I have a low credit score and I am a high risk customer meaning I cannot pay the subscription every month. My question is, and I challenge any ombudsman, auditor or accountant to give me an answer, does this make complete business sense if asking a person with a low credit score which generally calls me a poor person to pay more money for services from telkom. they might as well call it "broke tax" *****ing money from poor people.
