Telkom appalling service

On the 30th October I contacted Telkom to request a line shift as I was due to move house on the 3rd December. They were extremely helpful and all was set and ready for the transfer.

Then a few days later on the 7th November I get a call from a lovely lady named Angel. Informing me that the 10mb line I requested will not be available at my new home and that I have the option to downgrade to an 8mb line. Which I confirmed would be ok. On the 6th of December I called to enquire as to when I could expect to have a technician arrive to do the connection at my new place and I am told by Trinishan that a technician came out to the property that day (which is most certainly not the case) and that the 10mb line he was to instal could not be done and I wasn’t available to confirm if a 8mb line would be ok. I told him I had requested this with Angel weeks prior. He said there was nothing he could do to help me as I owed six hundred odd rand and I had to pay it before anything else could be requested. This was the first time I have received such shocking service from Telkom and I was left feeling very upset and frustrated. I have a business to run from home. I need my internet up and running. A neighbour in the complex has moved out and I was lucky enough to chat to her about the issue. She called Telkom to request I take over her line and according to her side, all has been “ok’ed”. I went into the Hillcrest store today to confirm it was all ok and ask when I could expect a technician and was told I have to cancel my existing line, pay the money and then query it with the billing department. WHY SHOULD I BE PAYING THEM ANYTHING WHEN MY REQUESTS HAVE NOT BEEN MET? I am now going to have to pay the neighbour for the use of her modem until the technician arrives and also pay Telkom for a service I never received due to THEIR negligence. How is this fair? I have always sung Telkom’s praises. But sadly, not anymore and probably never again.
