TELKOM and their debt collecting dogs.

I have had a landline with Telkom for about 18 years. Every now and again there would be a fault resulting in a deadline. Once I reported it, it was eventually fixed.

At some point in 2017/8 a representative of Telkom phoned me and explained that they would be migrating to a wireless system and that they would send me a new device. Coincidentally, a week or so later my landline went dead. I did not report it as I was under the impression that this was due to their imminent migration. Despite my line not working, they continued to bill me a monthly subscription, which I did not pay. After all if you don't deliver a service then you can't claim money for it. Eventually, I was contacted by a dubious attorneys firm that was tasked with debt collection for this account. I explained the situation to them, but they refused to revert back to their client, Telkom, in order to obtain clarification. Eventually, I emailed Telkom myself and, after a lengthy delay, they apologized and credited my account to reflect a zero balance.

Happy ending, one might assume, but oh NO, Telkom had another plan in mind. You guessed it, they continued to bill me a subscription fee for my deadline. As I type this, it is still not working and remains as dead as a dodo. Once again Telkom set their cash *** milking attorneys onto me. I once again had to explain that I did not receive a service from Telkom and that they cannot bill me for a service they did not render. These "attorneys" apparently did not understand this elementary principle. Somehow, between the two of them they decided to then list me at the credit bureaus for the grand total of R677-00. I only found this out today and plan to institute a civil claim for damages against both Telkom and the "attorney's firm, as well as, the credit bureaus. I shall also be reporting the "attorney's firm to their representative body. The point of this sorry tale is that one should not allow ************, ********* and morally bankrupt businesses to damage your credit rating.

Reviewer Update
To follow up:-
Since I wrote the above complaint, Telkom have not responded at all, not even to acknowledge the complaint.
I have subsequently had the time to locate the e-mail correspondence;-
They credited my account on or about the 5th of April 2019 with R1243-29 to reflect a zero balance. This was done as I had no service and they realized they cannot charge me a subscription if they do not render the service (E-mail from Thozama Vanda).
Reference Number being:- ***9
Then they continued to bill me a subscription fee, without having fixed or restored my connection, which resulted in the said R677-00 listing at the Credit Bureaus.
TELKOM - the masters of pathetic and inept service !
