Telkom ADSL to Fibre - a massive lie
I signed a new contract with Telkom late in 2017 and upgraded my modem from the Billion to the De-Link. The new modem was hit by lightning and I had to buy a new modem from Telkom in February 2018. In the meanwhile, Vumatel started installing fibre in our area. In February, my second De-Link modem was hit by lightning and I just could not afford to buy another one. At this stage I approached Telkom about converting my ADSL to fibre and I was advised to instruct Vumatel to install the fibre box inside my home(which they did at a cost of R1700) and then apply at a Telkom outlet for the conversion.
I went to the outlet at The Glen in march and filled in the application form. I was then told that a technician would contact me in a few days to install.
I still had the old Billion modem which I plugged in again - it only works 10% of the time and continuously has to be restarted. But as this was only supposed to be for a few days, I thought it would be ok.
Shockingly, more than 3 months later, Telkom has not installed the fibre and I have incurred data costs of over R3500.
I went back to the Glen in April to query my application and was told that it had to be redone. Which I did. Still nothing, then after many calls to 10213 and fruitlessly holding on for hours, where I find that as soon as the consultant knows what I am querying, they immediately say their system is down and I need to call back.
I went back to The Glen and they told me they CANNOT help...I need to call 10213.
So, after 3 months of applying to convert my ADSL to fibre, Telkom cannot do it, or cannot be bothered that I am incurring data cost and cannot do Showmax etc.
Atrocious!!!!! Afrihost or Vumatel can do this for me in a few days but I am stuck with a Telkom contract. How can I cancel this contract and never see or hear about Telkom again
