Telkom - a worthless service and expensive lesson.

Telkom has been literally one of the worst decisions and customer experiences I have had in my life. I purchased a Telkom Mobile router on a Black Friday special they had a little over a year ago. So, turns out it was completely and utterly worthless. There was literally never signal. Event at home I would get an "emergency calls only" message. The 5gigs of data I had was therefore worthless - as I had little to no signal to connect. I had to roam on MTN to get signal.

I phoned Telkom and complained - to which their response was that the data is only Telkom data, and roaming on other networks would not allow me to use my 5gigs. They tried to be helpful by saying they would load a 5gig "all network data" on my account. Of course, this happened once, and then it didn't and then it did not etc. Every month it was a surprise if I could connect or not.

When I cancelled, they have hidden fees to cancel that will BLOW YOUR MIND. First of all the cancellation process is a complete nightmare - follow the MyBroadband articles on this saga if you like shocking stories. So of course, in the true Telkom fashion, they continued to debit me even after I cancelled. The charge you the lifetime of your account (which is fair) then they charge a "migration fee" (even though it is a cancellation) of over R400. They charge a debit reversal fee of over R200 for the debit that were unauthorized - since I have cancelled.

I was so desperate to get out of the choke of Telkom, I paid these fees. My advise would be to anyone reading - do not make this mistake. Telkom seems like value because of the price - but you will regret it deeply and it will cost you a lot.
