Telkom – A Masterclass in Deception and Incompetence
If you’re thinking about taking out a contract with Telkom, don’t. And if you already have one, prepare for a nightmare when trying to cancel it.
In early January, I went to a Telkom branch to cancel my cellphone contract. The staff there told me to come back on the 23rd of January because that’s when my contract officially ends. Fine. I followed their instructions and went to a different branch—closer to my work—on the 23rd of January.
I made sure to ask the lady assisting me if the January debit would be the last payment for the contract, and she confidently said, yes. Naturally, I expected that to be the end of it.
Fast forward to my statement arriving, and surprise, surprise—I was still billed for the contract. Furious, I went back to the second branch to get answers, only to be told that the final payment would actually go off at the end of February and that the person who originally sold me the contract should have informed me. So now, it’s apparently my responsibility to chase down information that Telkom’s own staff can’t even get right?
Telkom’s incompetence is astounding. Their staff don’t have a clue what they’re doing, they give wrong information that costs customers money, and they’re more than happy to keep charging you even after you’ve canceled. This company thrives on misleading people and making cancellation as painful as possible.
Stay far away from Telkom unless you enjoy being ****med, **** to, and ****** blind. Wish I can give them a 0 star rating.
