Telkom 8.ta (3G) network and epic fail!!

<p>Over the past three weeks I have noticed in a few different areas that my Telkom 8.ta connection now gives me much more frequent "No network" coverage than usual. Tested my sim in other modems - same result. I also tested sim-cards from other providers with my modem - and the problem is definitely not with my modem, but with Telkom! Areas I have experiences "No Network" or showing a 2G connection (weak at best - and much slower than the old dial-ups), include areas in and around Pretoria (Eldoraigne, Littleton, and Centurion), Nylstroom, and Vanderbijlpark. I suspect that with bandwidth sharing being the allowed MO for providers in South Africa, Telkom has oversold their capacity far beyond what their infrastructure allows for. Nagging on Telkom to fix this I reckon is a futile exercise. It is time to talk about alternative and more feasible providers. One option is for the consumer market in South Africa to demand allowance for international providers with both the capability and capacity to bring in proper and more affordable services and push the greedy controlled dinosaurs like Telkom to extinction. Enough is enough...</p>
