Struggling a month to activate a contract
On 8 January 2018 I took out a 30GB Free Me Contract (multiple sims) with simple requests: 1. Add my eldest son's number (porting from Vodacom) 2. Issue a new sim card for my youngest 3. Add my number (as the primary number - porting from MTN)
After 4 visits to TELKOM Hatfield (where I dealt with Lerato and Elizabeth) and 2 visits to TELKOM Brooklyn (where I dealth with Johannes and Lazarus), the situation is:
1. My son's number was added - although for some misterious reason he is not on Telkom's records (confirmed by Johannes in Brooklyn) - boggles the mind as he is able to make and receive phone calls on Telkom network 2. My youngest son's SIM was issued - no problem there 3. My number was ported (after 3 weeks of torture), BUT AS A PAY-AS-YOU-GO. No one can explain why, but I have never requested that. This means that I need to buy airtime and data at higher prices and inconvenience after I thought that I have a contract.
On Sunday 28 January I went to Telkom Brooklyn to (again) find out what the problem is and why I was still not added to the contract as a primary number. A call was logged, case number ********** 6. On Friday morning 2 January I went back to Telkom Brooklyn to find out what the problem might be since nothing has changed. The case was escalated. Sunday night 21:30 I received a call from a call centre assistant, asking my permission to add my number to the contract. Just to be informed that I will be without cell phone reception for at least 24 hours while they add my number to the contract.
I am sick and tired of being send back and forth: in store I hear I should contact the 081 180 number. When I call I am advised to go back to the shop. Elizabeth's attitude needs attention as she repeatedly told me that I do not understand the system and that she should be left to do what she knows best - she ended up being the person who converted my number to a pay-as -you-go. She issued a new sim card and told me to throw away the old one. Thank goodness I did not throw away the old card, as it turns out that sim card was actually activated as the 'primary' number, but duplicated on the system.
I will most definitely advise anyone considering Telkom, to think twice. I am quite proud of myself to have never lost my temper (which is no small feat if you consider I need to take time off work to sort out this mess, and nothing is attributed to any wrong doing on my side). I get the impression Telkom employees only want to get you out of the shop without solving the problem.
