Store won't accept recent SARS tax return as legal proof of residence
I recently tried to open an account with Telkom for one of there internet packages through the Telkom Store in Clearwater. When I provided my most recent SARS tax documentation as proof of residence I was turned away saying that I needed a utility bill. This despite the fact that my stamped 3 months bank statements are also a proof of residence displaying the same address seen on my tax documentation.
I have been attempting to open accounts at this particular store for a couple of years and every time there is an issue with my documents where I am forced to have a family member open an account for me. I am employed with a clean credit record but all my accounts and contracts are in my partner's name which only leaves me with my bank statements and my tax documents as proof of residence, which are all perfectly legal and accepted as proof of residence.
I specifically used my tax return documents so there would be no question as to the validity of my documentation to open an account in my name. It is unacceptable that staff and managers at your stores do not know what a valid proof of residence is and have customers running around frantically trying to find documentation they already possess.
List of valid documentation for proof of residence: - Utility bill, such as water, electricity or rates (less than 3 months) - Bank statement or financial statement from a financial institution (less than 3 months old) - Copy of a signed lease agreement (by both parties), (less than 1 year old) - Municipal rates and taxes invoice (less than 3 months old) - Mortgage statement from another financial institution, (less than 6 months old) - Telephone account, ie. a land–line or cellphone account (less than 3 months old) - Official tax return/tax assessment (less than 1 year old) - Official correspondence from the South African Revenue Services ("SARS") - Life insurance policy issued by an insurance company (recent) - Correspondence from a body corporate or share–block association (less than 3 months old) - Valid television license document - Short–term insurance policy document or a short–term insurance renewal letter (less than 1 year old) - Retail account statement/invoice (less than 3 months old)
