Stay away from Telkom
I wish I could give zero stars. Telkom has been an inconvenience since January when I signed up with them. The first decided to add an additional contract to my name, after explaining to them 4 times not to deliver the contract they did it anyway, after it was delivered I tried getting Telkom to come and collect the device because it's an error. The requests fell on deaf ears every time. I refused to pay for the contract which I did not agree to and been fighting with them since February to get the contract removed. Eventually in April the accepted the mistake they made and arranged for the device to be collected, after the device were collected they blocked my account because I wasn't paying for the second contract (this was while my husband was in ICU and I needed to be in contact with the hospital, lawyers and police regarding his case). After numerous attempts to get my number unblocked and explaining to them the urgency, they still did not give any urgency to the fact that they suspended all my services because they made a mistake and already admitted to the mistake. More than a month later from when they initially blocked my account it got sorted, after I needed to phone them every day to find out what is going on, no one has any urgency. 4 Line Managers promised to phone me back with feedback yet no one did, I just had to accept that due to Telkom's mistake and the fact that I do not want to pay for the additional contract which I never agreed to, I had no services and no way of calling anyone in cases of emergency or to call the hospital or police regarding my husband's accident. Now I want to cancel my contract, the initial one I agreed to, because Telkom bridged the contract when they blocked my contract which I still paid for every month, I have no interest in being part of Telkom at all after this, but now I am held liable for penalty fees and early settlement fees and so on if I want to get out of this contract? I did not bridge my contract, I kept on paying as per my agreement, yet Telkom did not provide the services as per their agreement. I am more than willing to give the device back which I have been using but now that is also a problem for Telkom because what are they supposed to do with the device, yet no one cared about what I need to do with a contract I am paying for but cannot use.
I feel that Telkom messed up, Telkom bridged the contract which we agreed on, so Telkom can take the responsibility for any losses, but this is also where the power play comes in because if I just decide that I am not going to pay because I do not want Telkom as my provider anymore, then I get blacklisted, because as the customer I need to suffer all the inconveniences that Telkom can possibly cause, and they will never be held liable for their actions.
I have been in contact with one manager, yet now that my account is unlocked this manager is also ignoring my emails, yet he said that once my account is sorted he will advice on the legal way of going forward with the cancellation process, but yet again Telkom is not taking any responsibility for their actions and inconveniences caused to me.
I think it's nonsense that the customer should always pay regardless of how bad a service provided messes them around because the customer cannot afford to get a bad credit reputation and Telkom does not care because they know if you don't pay your credit score gets affect.
It has been my biggest regret moving to Telkom and I hope that Telkom will get back to me one day regarding how I can get out of the contract.
If anyone wondering on moving to Telkom, don't. They are by far the worst that I have ever dealt with and I've been with a few providers before.
