Slow service. Inadequate communication. Unhelpful help line o

On 19 July 2016 I went instore to a Telkom shop to apply for a landline and dsl connection for my home. Ten days after applying I had heard nothing from Telkom other than my initial sms confirming my order number. I returned to the store on July 28 and was informed Telkom had canceled the order because they couldn't find my home. The following day I brought them my homes GPS coordinates. The following day I went in store to confirm they had my data logged only to find that in fact. The entire order was canceled. We had to recreate the entire order. Then I was informed that the order could not be processed because I had an outstanding fee from 2013. I went on to explain that in 2013 Telkom had had a debit order on my bank account until I canceled my subscription in 2013 and that therefore any billing error may with them and not myself. The clerk informed me that it would take up to two weeks for accounts to rectify the error. At this point I was already becoming frustrated and refused to leave until the clerk contacted the relevant persons to sort it out immediately. Which she did and resolved that issue. She then confirmed that the order was logged. The following day (august 2) I received sms notification that a technician would install a line on August ten. I phoned Telkom customer care to ask for an earlier scheduling as the advertised 7 to 14 days from order to completion would be well passed. The appointment could not be changed citing that the technician was fully booked prior to that arrangement. On august ten. I was notified telephonically by the technician that the line could not be installed. Apparently there is no near by telephone pole to connect a line to. He said he would log it and it would be completed within two days. The following day having received no feed back from Telkom I attempted phoning him. No response to multiple calls. Then I phoned Telkom help line. Sales refused to help saying the problem was technical. Technical said it was sales. R300 worth of airtime later I finally spoke to a supervisor in sales so informed me it will take up to 21 working days to resolve. I asked if there was anyone higher I could speak to. The answer was no. I asked if he could phone the relevant people to solve the issue while I waited and feed back the result to me. He said they do not have telephonic access to the other department and had to use a online ticket based notification System to log faults. He refused to put me through to a higher authority within the Telkom structures or to put me through to the technicians department saying that the system is deliberately designed to segregate departments and prevent customers having access to higher ups/non help desk personell. At this point I have nowhere further to go. It's so far been 24 days from when I ordered a line. I have spent over 300 rand on phone calls. Over 3 hours in store. Untold amount of cell phone data to be able to use internet in the abscence of a fixed line. There is no lte in my area on any network. No neotel. The local wireless isp does not have line of sight to my home. My wife is attempting to complete a masters degree by correspondence. We have to drive up the road to an area with better signal every time she needs to send an email. And only once in this entire saga has a Telkom employee or representative called us to inform us of what is happening.

Reviewer Update

In the end despite response from the telkom social media team i was still left extremely dissatisied.

The day after posting my review I received a call from a member of the Telkom social media team.

The individual promised to look into the problem if I would email her the details of what had transpired and she provided me with an email address, This I did. It took a few days to get a further response and when I did it was a phone call basically apologizing for the delays.

I asked what was going to be done to solve the problem of not having a line installed at what was now almost 4 weeks after my initial request. Well apparently it was going to be done in the next week.

Only it wasnt, It took a further 2 weeks for installation. After installation the line didnt work and we had to relog the fault before someone came out to repair the problem (they had forgotten to open the port at the local exchange). Except the technician came, inspected the house and left without actually entering so even after he activated the port the line STILL didnt work. It took another week for a technician to visit, enter the premises and actually check the line and activate it. What kind of technician doesnt check to see if his repair has worked?? Only one from Telkom
