Slow internet - often nothing at all

The problem started 5 years ago. 89 recorded faults in that period with 21 registered this year alone, without resolving the actual problem. One gets the idea of how poor the service from Telkom really is.

Technicians and specialists have investigated and confirmed that the internet problem lies with an out dated UMC that is not capable of delivering a consistent connection. This information appears to be ignored by senior management.

In an effort to be able to access the internet I have explored LTE which is expected to work fine seeing as the tower is 100m from my house but Telkom’s antiquated coverage map does not include us and as a result no guarantee of service is forthcoming from Telkom. Dreams of FTTH are just that, as no committed roll out information is available.

I have now resorted to recreating the port on a daily basis in an attempt to keep the internet alive. This is very time consuming and is considered unnecessary.

Telkom’s channel of communication is appalling. Averages of 20 minute calls to the only contact available “The Call Centre”, leave one frustrated as any contact with more senior staff is impossible. Management appear to be hiding behind closed doors – not surprising given the obvious extent of problematic service and the inability to resolve issues.

This self imposed fiasco is unnecessary and totally unbecoming of the largest communications network in South Africa, exacerbating the negative perception of Telkom and severely impacting on their credibility.

To add insult excessive expenditure on solar panels covering H/O parking area’s has taken priority over attending to basic services to existing customers. This is viewed as an irresponsible act.

It’s high time that Telkom responded responsibly to the basic problem of internet access recorded 89 times.
