Simcard Activation delay

Can the Telkom team please explain how log it takes to activate a simcard after upgrade using the old simcard. I was advised of 24hrs...when i called now, I was advised of 72hrs or I should have been given a new simcard which gets activated faster? I need to use my phone but I cant with a simcard giving me the "Not registered on Network" error.
