Shockingly Bad Service

On the 11th of August 2017 I contacted Telkom to please move my ADSL line from my old residential address. Telkom confirmed that a technician would be dispatched to connect my already installed line to the exchange box. I asked if they could please notify a day before the technician is dispatched so I may ensure that someone is home in order to let the technician in.

No message is received and on the Monday 14th of August I get a call from the technician saying he is on his way, luckily I was able to organise someone to be home.

After the technician is done, he tells me that Telkom registered it as a voice line, I said no it is a ADSL line. He ensured me there is no need to worry, I must just contact Telkom to have it converted to a ADSL line. Apparently this was supposed to be easy.

The same day I contact Telkom to have the line converted. The technician on the phone told me 7 working days until the line is activated. I wait the 7 working days and call through and I am advised the order is still pending and awaiting client to confirm. I told the technician on the phone that I have confirmed everything is done and can they please activate the line, I get told to wait 48 hours as the technician has activated it manually. I wait the 48 hours still nothing, I call through again and speak to another technician and apparently everything is done and I need to ask my ISP to take over. I called my ISP and they say no the line is not responding and the order must still not be closed on Telkom's side.

I call Telkom once again and ask for an update on the status, all of a sudden my order is still pending and waiting for client to confirm. now annoyed I asked to speak to a manager. I get sent through to the manager who sounds like she does not care about my problem and says we will put through my line through to the commercial department to have it activated, again she gives me the 48 hour wait period (REF number ********** ) I asked her how certain is she my line will be activated, she said "I am very certain" but with a very bad attitude.

48 hours later I contact my ISP to try to activate my line and apparently my line is still not active due to the order still pending! Due to me baring no fruit with Telkom and been spoken to terribly by the staff I opted to ask my ISP to assist. The same day my ISP asked the commercial department to have the line active which the again give the 48 hour time period.

My ISP got back to me today with the following mail:

"I had no joy from the service manager yesterday, sorry about that, i sent this through to a the senior manager and hope we get some form of resolution today."

I has taken has taken nearly 2 and a half weeks to have my line active when I was originally told 48 hours however Telkom is quick to ensure I pay them and continue to charge me for this sorry excuse of service.

I had never had anything bad to say about Telkom as previous experiences where fruit however this is an absolute mess up and nobody at Telkom ,from technician to manager, actually cares.

If this matter isn't resolved at the end of the week I oath to avoid anything Telkom related again, it's actually pathetic the service I received. I have received no reference numbers by SMS which Telkom confirmed I would receive after I asked from them over each phone call, furthermore I have telephone recordings to prove my side of the story.

After a few days of struggling to find out the issue my ISP was able to get a technician out. The technician confirmed that the line was wired incorrectly by the first technician ,who I explained multiple times that it was an ADSL line, thankfully the second technician new what he was doing and I am finally connected. A month to figure out it was faulty wiring... Not so good.
