Screen repair through Telkom chaos!

I have an s7edge Samsung device. The phone had a slight crack barely visible, only when tilted in light you could see it. The damage was not much deeper than that for there was no color lines running on the LCD. The phones battery lasts for almost two days after fully charged. I was told about the free screen repair from Samsung for the device and googled it to confirm this fact, at which it stated you get a free screen repair within the first 12months of purchase. The samsung close to my area is closed down because of management issues and this forced me to go to telkom directly. Telkom Clearwater Mall. At the store where my device was purchased on contract. I showed the device to an employee who saw the crack and said it would be no problem and took it into the office for a manager to confirm the repair would be in order. I booked the device in on the 10th of May which was 4 days before the 12 month purchase period. The employee gave his word that there would be NO COSTS AT ALL and I SHOULD NOT WORRY. I received an sms only a week later saying the repair centre allocated the device for repair. A day after that another sms saying I need to pay an amount of R5039.00 for the device is out of warranty so I went into the Telkom store once again to find out why I received this sms. The same employee who booked in my device spoke to me again saying we have proof it was booked in on time and sent them an query email. I received a call from the repair centre later that day telling me the device is out of warranty because there is damage to the LCD and BATTERY. (Remember my statement at the beginning about my screen and battery). The lady told me that if I do not accept the quote I no have to pay an amount of R189.75 assessment fee. She followed this statement by saying I won't get the device back until that amount is paid and if I fail to do so in a month Telkom would sell the device to cover the assessment fee. I was not notified about this possibility before hand and there was nothing wrong with my device other that the small crack. I returned to the Telkom store the next day to talk to a manager to find out why this is happening now. To which the same employee from the first day said there are no managers in on Saturday's and I'd have to come back during the week and said "Ahg, just pay the amount to get your device back". I am not happy about this whole situation and I am very unhappy about the service and now I know if I hopefully do get my device back and something is wrong with it they will turn the entire story and I won't have a foot to stand on!
