R3,397.07 to repair a Huawei P8 Lite (2017), surely it is cheaper to buy a new phone.

I gave in my Hauwei P8 Lite at Telkom for repairs on the 18th of September 2018. The phone was working perfectly except that it was not taking charge. I got a sms a week later stating that my warranty had expired and that the repairs would cost me R3,397.07. I only signed my contract in November 2017 last year. The following day I got a call confirming the repair amount. I questioned the 12 month warranty period and was then told that the screen was scratched and that was the damage that caused the phone not to charge. The Job invoice that iI had to fill-in clearly stated the condition of the phone "Phone looks well taken care off". I questioned the service agent again about the condition of the phone and to check the job invoice phone description. He again insisted that I need to pay for the repairs. At this point I was upset and asked him to get his Manager to call me. Later that day a woman called me confirming that I had to pay for the repairs. I again question her about the condition of the phone and that it was still working when I handed it in. The problem was that it was not taking charge. She then told me that she needed to look at the repair report and get back to me. I got called again by this person but she now says there was water damage to the phone and that it is not covered by the warranty. She again insisted that I need to pay for the repairs. I argued that the phone was in working condition when I handed it in for repairs so there could not possibly be any water damage as she states. We continued arguing and at this point I asked to speak to her Manager. She then said that the Manager was in a meeting. I requested her Manager call me the next day. She then said that the Manager doe not work on (the next day)-Thursday. She then insisted that I look at the repair report. I said that the report does not change anything but she could e-mail it to me. At this point I was getting nowhere with the repair company. I then went on to the Telkom website and laid an official complaint through their complaints option. I still haven't heard from them. The next day the lady called to confirm if I had received the report and I confirmed . She then said I had 7 days to pay the R3,397.07 for the repairs. If I chose not repair the phone I will have to pay the R187.75 assessment charge to get the phone back. I got called the next day by the first service agent who again asked when I was going to pay the R3,397.07. I told him like I told the woman that I was going to take this matter further and was not willing to pay R3,397.07 to repair a Huawei P8 Lite (2017), surely it is cheaper to buy a new phone. He then told me that I need to pay the R187.75 assessment charge within 30 days or my phone will be sold to recover the cost. I am now at this point writing this complaint.
