Poor service from ****** and scoundrels!
I paid R807 per month for a 10Mbps ADSL line, which was turned into a 10Mbps wireless connection. When the lockdown started, I could not watch anything on my TV, because I could not get more than 1,8Mbps download speed. I repeatedly reported this issue, with no results. Eventually I cancelled my Telkom service online, using their app, expecting to have to pay a penalty for cancelling my contract before the 24 month period was over. Several days after I cancelled my contract, I could not access my account via the app and I also did not receive any statements via email, the last one I received was for March 2020.
Suddenly, on 2 July 2020, I received an email that contained a letter of demand from the Telkom Credit Management. This letter stated, among other things: CUSTOMER NUMBER : *** OUTSTANDING AMOUNT : R 2,655.13 NOTICE IN TERMS OF SECTION 129(1)(a) OF THE NATIONAL CREDIT ACT, NO. 34 OF 2005 IN RESPECT OF OVERDUE TELKOM ACCOUNT According to Telkom's records the above-mentioned amount has to date not yet been paid despite numerous demands for payment.
I paid the normal amount of R807 on 3 July 2020 and the next day I went to the Telkom branch in Mokopane to complain about this BS. The man who assisted me at the door, told me that he couldn't help me, as they are not able to assist with any account related matters, but he can get someone from their accounts department to contact me so I can lodge a dispute. I am still waiting for this call.
Today, I received a call from VVM, whomever they may be, to inform me that my Telkom account had been handed over to them for collection, as I still owe Telkom R1848,13. I told the person who called me, that I am in dispute with Telkom as I believe that Telkom actually owes me money, because I paid for something they did not provide as per my contract. He insisted that I give him a reference number for the dispute, which I do not have, as I have not been contacted by Telkom yet.
