Poor service and underhandedness
To set the scene, my family is in contract with Telkom for a 2MB ADSL uncapped line. Every few months our internet goes down (the line, not the router) and it has to be fixed. Whilst I understand that technology can be fickle, this happens far too often to just be coincidental technical failures. I will admit that Telkom has increased response time to repair the fault from 2 weeks (a few years ago) to a week currently. However, other faults occurs once the primary fault was "fixed". Most recently, our internet went down due to cable theft (I understand that this cannot be controlled by Telkom), the issue was resolved and a new problem occured - intermittent connectivity and slow speeds. This issue has been ongoing for a while after the fault was reported. Telkom stated that they were dealing with the issue (this being several days ago). The issue persists.
Another gripe I have with Telkom is that they sell you a contract for a 2MB uncapped ADSL line, and in the last 4 years, the line has never reached speeds greater than 1.21 megabits/second (as obtained using www.speedtest.net on a regular basis). It appears that Telkom seems to think that by using T's&C's it can give the customer what suits Telkom, and if you wish to get the speeds that you're actually paying for, it costs more than advertised. I feel that this is poor business practice as we are receiving nearly half of what we're paying for.
