Poor Customer Care from Telkom

Today I had the misfortune to be in dire need of a Telkom SmartBroadband Wireless LTE Prepaid Sim card. Background info is that we are connected to a 4mbps ADSL line which is the fastest that Telkom can supply in our area. I've lived at my present address for the past 26 years and Telkom has never upgraded the DSL line. LTE speeds are even worse than DSL in our area (proven during the lockdown). Unfortunately, when it becomes necessary to upload numerous files on a 4mbps line, no one else in the house can use it. Hence a temporary need for a prepaid connection. Well, the Telkom store at the Vaalmall in Vanderbijlpark was of no help. Apparently, their computers were off-line as far as purchasing a Prepaid sim card was concerned. They were online for everything else except for the purchase of sim cards. I waited in vain outside the store for a couple of hours hoping the computors would come back online. Bear in mind, I am 64 years old and in ill health. Eventually, I went home (extra costs) and decided to phone and find out if they were back online. It was impossible to establish this as you only get to listen to a pre-recorded tape which is of no assistance. I returned to the store mid-afternoon only to find it impossible to obtain a sim card. I asked the lady at the door to ask the manager when we could expect the problem to be rectified and the answer I received was that no one knew when that would be. Come back tomorrow. Bear in mind there were numerous customers needing sim cards. How is it that the staff can't be bothered to take your number and give you a call when the problem has been sorted out? Telkom has a serious problem concerning customer care but they are like the proverbial duck. Water off their back and nothing bothers them. Well, I for one will never do business with them again. My order is in with Rain and if the speed is as good as they say, I'll be canceling my unlimited 4mbps data package too. Well done Telkom, you continue to disappoint.
