Pointless ID policies

I bought a SIM card with the intention of doing a SIM swap. I phoned the call centre, as I have done before. Only to be told they don't do that via the call centre anymore, I have to go to a store. So, being near Greenstone, I went to the store there. I was told that I need my ID book, and that my driver's licence is not good enough. But, if I were to email them a copy of my ID that would be good enough.

The Identification Act Act No. 68 of 1997, makes provision for driver's licences to be valid forms of ID. This is accepted by banks, and other government departments.

Further, sending a copy of my ID to them over email is unsafe and insecure, and in contravention of The Protection of Personal Information Act, No 4 of 2013.

So, after much inconvenience, I can't use my contract because the SIM swap has not happened.
