Phone & internet cut

My ADSL service came up for it's anniversary in December last year and I wanted to port to another ADSL provider on my Telkom line. I wrote in specifically with my request to make sure my line was not discontinued. I also sent in a cancellation form, also with specific details.

Telkom do not have an accounts function at their shops and some problems are too complicated by phone, speaking to someone face to face is the only way!

I migrated to another supplier but continued to be charged the full rate by Telkom as if nothing had changed. I phoned several times, I visited Telkom shops and they relayed messages. Eventually in April 2017 my account arrived minus the ADSL data. I then sent an email to ask for a refund based on the date of my cancellation.

On Thursday 14th April my internet service disappeared so I phoned my new supplier who said it was not from their side. We then realised that although we still had dial tone, we could not make or receive calls. At about lunchtime that day I phoned 10210 to report the problem. I was told there was no fault on Telkom side and I would be billed if the problem was at my house. I requested that it be sorted as I had no internet or phone. Today Saturday 15th I phoned 10210 again and the lady said no-one had been allocated to the problem but she would escalate the call. At about 4.00pm this afternoon a lady phoned to say that the fault had been logged as......non affordable, so presumably my line and service was disconnected. I made no such call to say my service was non affordable and I wasn't informed about that on Thursday last, when the problem could have been resolved quickly. The service was disrupted at the beginning of a four day holiday!! I run a guesthouse from my property and now have no phone line or internet over what would have been a busy Easter Holiday!!

The level of ability of contact staff on help lines is abysmal at Telkom, simple tasks cannot be performed readily. No-one is in fear of losing their job over incompetance, the private sector could not run their business in this fashion, otherwise there would be no business.

It's not possible to sort problems face to face any more, everyone hides behind frustrating help lines.

Please reinstate my services and pay me the refund I am owed, this of course cannot be done until Tuesday as it's holiday time!!

Yazied,

Surely the complaint I have made carries enough information to effect a repair asap.

It makes one increasingly mad that further information is requested, it's just a pathetic deflection of the issue and the seriousness of the many complaints in this forum.

Telkom are fortunate that the mechanism is not in place in this country to fine parastatals for not providing contract customers with an adequate level of service.

Yazied, your private reply link doesn't work, so I am unable to reply there.

As I write, Tuesday morning 18th April, I have been on the phone to Telkom for 1hour 40 minutes! I am having to use my mobile as I have no Telkom service.

My enquiry has gone from pillar to post, I have spoken to all 3 departments, sales, service and accounts. All departments are assuring me that there is no problem with my service, although I still have no phone or internet and this has been since last Thursday morning. One agent, whilst transferring me to another department, put me through to an internal service that required my 7 digit salary number!

The incompetence of this company knows no bounds!

I have now been on the phone for almost two hours listening to empty sales talk!!
