Passport is proof of identification Telkom

I have never heard any company that never accepts a passport as proof of identification. Why on earth would Telkom SA not take a Passport as proof of ID while all banks accepts a passport? Mama is giving me a sign, clearly: I should not deal with Telkom in my entire life! Shocked to the core by Telkom!
