Old landline number lost

I app**** for an uncapped 24 month ADSL package (via telephone - order number ***A / ***A2). I explained that we had an existing landline ***) in Durban on my brother's name, but that we want to upgrade and have the debit payments to come to me in future. He is based in Durban (cell no. ***) and I am in Johannesburg (cell no. ***). I was advised that it would be a new line because it's on my name and that my brother should go ahead and cancel his account. He submitted cancellation papers based on that advise (***6A). However, when the technician came, he told us we were incorrectly advised and asked why he was called out - there is no need to install a new copper line when there is already an existing one. I just needed to apply to take over my brothers account and then apply for the same ADSL contract. Moreover, he told us we would lose our old number! My brother went back immediately to stop the cancellation (*** / ***). At first he was told it would be stopped, but then the Telkom store assistants in both Jhb and Durban said that while they could see it on the system, they didnt have permission to stop the cancellation from being processed. The only reason we requested it was because of the wrong advice from your call centre agents! We never wanted to lose the existing number. My mother stays at the premises and this is the number she knows and that all her relations / friends know to contact her. Our landline has now been cancelled and even though my brother re-app**** for it, Telkom has subsequently given our number away before the technician could come to reconnect us. Bitterly disappointed with this service, when all I wanted was to actually take up an additional product with you ON THE EXISTING LANDLINE NUMBER. As a result I will be cancelling ALL of my Telkom products - the new landline / ADSL application for reconnection, as well as all four of our cellphone contracts which recently expired. There is no reason to upgrade and stay with Telkom, now that our landline number that we have had for +/-30 years is lost. I might as well go to a new service provider that gives the right guidance and resolves an error when they cause it. You have lost our number and you have lost a customer for life.
