Not updolding the spirit of Ubuntu AND Violation of various rights.
I am deeply saddened by my experience this past few weeks with Telkom.
I orderd a contract online, after I told my husband that I didn't want to choose Telkom, he convinced me that they had the best deal and should be given the chance and support, also it was good for competition in the country.
It was a specific online special which had to be ordered by 30 April 2019. It was for the samsung s10e, with data and minutes but additional free, 100 telkom to any other network minutes. Tt also comes with samsung buds and R3500 samsung voucher for accessories. All this for R599. I was impressed.
I placed my order online on 22 April 2019 (I still have the screenshot proving this).
Then I got a call from Telkom and we tied up the verbal contract. I was debited in April but Telkom maintains that order was only captured on 2 May. This is not my problem.
Anyway, once I did the contract I knew I would get the phone soon. I was after many calls told that I would wait 14 days. No problem, I waited. However, I waited even longer.... in the time of waiting, I spoke to several consultants, each a different story. Eventually after various calls, a manager called me and put me on louspeaker whilst he spoke to the courier about the order. The next day, the phone was delivered. God bless his soul. I was relieved.
I was delighted... it was short lived.
from then until now my sim was not activated and I still don't have the samsung buds and accessory voucher.
Again, an array of calls with different consultants and I now see that telkom mistakenly or delibereatly cancelled the contract (yet I have the phone?) and still no sim. who gave them permission to cancel?
After learning from the consultant that they cancelled it, I again made various calls and e-mails.... nobody is assisting, I get passed like a buck from corner to another. My dignity thrown to the soil like I am nothing. "We will escalate it Ma'am" pffft. Ja right.
I wish to palce on record that my time cannot be bought and I am obviously not remibursed for those calls but I would say that each call takes about 15minutes and if I made 20 of those, then my calls alone are worth, at a lawyers tariff about R100 a call per 3minutes, I would say those calls were worth about were at 3mins at R100 approx. worth about R10 000.
Then ofcourse my sanity has been impaired as I doubted myself, lost some confidence and and endued great inconvenience, all this during the fasting month of Ramadaan. I could even say that my religious rights were infringed because I had to talk to numerous people whilst I don't have a drop of water in my throat, and speak to them over and over and over again. By the time it was sunset and time to eat I was exhausted and without hope.
I will then also say that there are numerous provisions of the Consumer protection Act that have been encroached by Telkom and even more fo those under the law of contract.
On an emotional level though, I am upset that I chose the underdog, I, in the spirit of Ubuntu, decided to give the smaller guys a chance and I chose Telkom over vodacom and cellc and mtn... but no, Ubuntu matters not Telkom. at least my well-being matters not.
I am scarred by this order. I am in shock, is this what Telkom has come to? I am without resolution, I wonder to myself, will they still debit me tomorrow? I await that error so that I can find myself sitting on the benches of the court room explaining how I lost my sanity due an online order which reached me but never was truly mine.
