no service: fault 200CEK230616

The Telkom line linking my telephone and adsl to the Telkom network had been snapped by a truck on 23/6/16 leading to one of the most frustrating experiences highlighting why Telkom is unable to unlock the substantial value imbedded in their extensive network and customer base.

During my futile attempts to obtain meaningfull assistance in the fixing of the line the following occurred:

Some employees tried their best but it became clear that they did not have the means to properly assist, i.e:

- Sbusiso Solwondle from Telkom, Langeberg Mall, who twice assured me on 2 separate occasions that the line will definitely be fixed on 24/6/16,
- Tando from the call centre who assured me that the technician will be there early on 25/6/16 to fix the line, and
- Prince from the call centre who confirmed on 25/6/16 that the assigned technician, Albert Venter, did come out on 24/6/16 but left without fixing the line. Mr Venter then had been reassigned to the job but Prince had no idea why he did not fix the line or when or if he will be fixing the line. He also had no idea who was responsible for the sms message I received from Telkom on 24/6/16 stating that my service had been tested and found to be free of defects which obviously was not true with the severed line lying coiled up on the ground next to the telephone pole.

Unfortunately I also came across a very rude and hostile employee, Esmarie Esterhuyse, who made the following statements when I visited Telkom, Langeberg Mall for the third time on 24/6/16:

- that Telkom Langeberg Mall was not there to assist clients and that any assistance that Mr Solwondle did try and provide on my previous 2 visits was only done as a favour,
- that she will not give me the name of the assigned technician as “he will then know they gave his name to me” (why the secrecy and what was she trying to hide?), and
- that if I want any assistance I must call 10210 (the fact that I did not have a line from which to call 10210 clearly not occurring to her or of any concern to her).
She then tried to prescribe what I should say when reporting her very bad attitude and the ineffective and misleading assistance that they provide.

I have now finally given up on receiving any meaningful assistance / service from Telkom.
