No joy from Telkom

Good day My father passed away on 10 December 2017.

My mother, who is now 69 and has bad knees, has been to Telkom store at Baywest Mall, Port Elizabeth to complete forms and explained that my father passed away and included copies of her I'd, my late father's I'd as well as my father's death certificate. My mom requested that the account be put in her name and they gave her reference number TIN ********** ( ********** 26). We believed it was sorted and thanked them.

The middle of February 2018 there was an account in my mom's name, however, this was only data charges. Upon going back to the same Telkom store on 2018-03-23, my mom was told to return in ten days. Upon return after just over two weeks it still was not rectified. The consultant was asked to call their head office and correct it please. They did not let my mom know anything. She received two accounts separately, in her name for data and for the rest in my deceased father's name. This was very traumatic for my mother as she is still in mourning for my father and to crown it all she can't walk properly.

On 21 May 2018 my mom returned to the same Telkom store, this time the consultant gave my mom order number ********** 85 (last digit illegible), after being told the phone line is now dead. The consultant said it should be sorted out now.

When we got home the phone was working, however, the call answering service was no longer working.

The problem is that Telkom service delivery in this case was very poor and now they sent an account for R2427,40 of which there is billing for an alleged device purchased(entry level modem), for an amount of R1699,60. This bill is also in the name of a Mr. Mitchell and not Mrs. The alleged modem transaction date was 18 May 2018, (She was not there and unaware of said so called purchase). This is ***** as my mother never bought any or requested any modem.

This is very disturbing to my elderly mother and she depends on her children for transport to get around. All previous accounts are paid and up to date. This last account is just another disappointment in the list of poor service deliveries and frustrations suffered at the hands of Telkom.

When will this circus of errors end and stop the trauma it is causing my mother.

She is a person that needs the landline for safety reasons. This causes consumers to believe that they just don't care.
