No Communication, Missing Benefits, Wrong Details & Misleading Advertising

I opened two Telkom LTE data SIM contracts on 8 November 2025 at the Telkom Direct store in Adderley Street (CBD), Cape Town under the account name Mikaeel Salie. Both plans are the 22.5GB Day + 22.5GB Night contract deals that include 3 months Amazon Prime Video.

From day one, the service has been unacceptable. I was told I would receive an SMS or email with my Prime Video activation details. Today is 24 November — and I have received nothing. When I went back to the store, I discovered Telkom had captured my email address incorrectly, which they had to fix on the system. Even after correcting it, I still have not received any Prime Video activation, login instructions, or communication whatsoever.

The R500 “Dress Your Tech” voucher — clearly advertised but refused in-store

The official Telkom catalogue (valid 5 October – 30 November 2025) clearly shows on page 46 under Contract | LTE Deals, that the 24-month LTE contract for R135/month includes a “Get a R500 Dress Your Tech accessories voucher”. This appears directly under the plan breakdown. There is no small print or condition saying that I must take a router or add anything to qualify. This is clearly visible in the catalogue image you display online and in-store.

Despite this, when I asked in-store, I was told the voucher “does not exist.” This contradicts Telkom’s own marketing material and amounts to false advertising or a lack of staff training. Customers cannot be expected to pay for a contract based on benefits that are later denied.

Store unreachable — phone number does not work

To make matters worse, the store has no working phone number. The number listed on Telkom’s own website does not work, and the staff themselves confirmed that “the number doesn’t work.” This means the only way to get assistance is to physically go back to the store — which I’ve already had to do multiple times with no resolution.

Summary of issues

No Prime Video activation communication

Incorrect email captured on contract opening

R500 Dress Your Tech voucher advertised but denied by staff

Staff giving contradictory or dismissive answers

Store contact number not working

Forced to make multiple trips with still no resolution

What I expect from Telkom

I request that Telkom urgently:

1. Send my Amazon Prime Video activation details immediately

2. Honour the clearly advertised R500 Dress Your Tech voucher shown on page 46 of your own catalogue

3. Confirm that my corrected email address is now properly updated

4. Address the issue of incorrect advertising and inconsistent staff communication

5. Fix the nonfunctional store contact number so customers can actually reach the branch

This entire experience has been extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I signed a contract based on what your catalogue promised — and Telkom has failed to deliver even the basics.

I expect a prompt and clear resolution.
