I app**** (not accepted) for a Telkom account in February. I did not receive any communication from Telkom that my area is suitable or that I will be getting the account. 2 months later still with no contact from Telkom a courier company phones me to say that my package is ready with them. Now at this point I asked who sent the package and they informed me that it was indeed Telkom. Another month went past and still now contact from Telkom, I phoned to query the package and they informed me that I need to pay a deposit and that they are waiting for this deposit (this is my first time applying for a Telkom account and did not know what is standard practice) Still no one could tell me if the line has been approved and when they would come to install it. (no contract details) I went and payed said deposit. Still under the impression that this is part of the application process and I will be refunded if I declined. Another Month passed and a openserve agent phoned me to come and install the line. Not once up until this point has anyone spoken to me about billing and debit orders or any contract information. So I naturally assumed this was pay as you go because I had to go pay at the post office(where I payed the deposit). I since moved from the property and phoned Telkom to move or cancel the service but they could not move the line because they could not pick up my new address. I since moved out of town and did not try and contact them again because I did not receive any billing info or a contract. Today I checked m transunion report as I do every 3 months and there is the Telkom account in arrears for R5000. I immediately contact Telkom to stop further increase in the account and set up a payment plan, I also tried to explain to them what happend and asked how did the account reach R 5000. they simply told me the account will continue to increase until I have payed up the arrears and then they could cancel the account. this is truly unacceptable. I do not have R 5000 I could just pay and now it will continuously increase. I am willing to pay a fair amount in good faith but I never signed any contract nor was it discussed with me. I have logged a complaint with Transunion as I never signed a contract and cannot be held liable for the R 5000. I contact Telkom again telling them all of this they sent me a few emails back and never resolved the issue and now I am not getting any word from them
