Migrating to LTE

I was contacted by Telkom during July or August 2016 with an offer to move over to LTE. I informed the caller that I was still in a two year ADSL contract. He said that when moving over to LTE, I can cancel the ADSL contract and that the cost will be approximately R60 per month for the remainder of the ADSL contract as I received a DSTV Explora with the contract. As my ADSL line was faulty for over a month at this stage, I agreed to these terms, but never heard from Telkom again.

I therefore app**** for Telkom LTE through one of their business partners and activated my LTE on 13 September 2016. On the same day I informed Telkom that I migrated to LTE and that they should therefore cancel the ADSL contract. I was asked to complete a Cancellation Request and mail this and a copy of my ID to ********** I did this on 13 September 2016 and received confirmation of receipt.

My ADSL line was still faulty at this stage. I received a call from a Telkom technician on 22 September 2016, informing me that he wanted to fix the ADSL line. I informed him that this would not be necessary as I switched to Telkom LTE. I received an SMS the same day informing me that "the report reference ... was restored".

I kept receiving Telkom accounts for the ADSL contract and sent a follow up e-mail to ********** on 14 November 2016 and once again received confirmation of receipt. As nothing happened, I phoned 10210 on 2 December 2016 and on their request forwarded the cancellation mail to ********** on the same day. She promissed to escalate the issue.

On 9 December 2016, I was contacted by a law firm regarding the outstanding ADSL account. I forwarded the cancellation mail to them.

On 14 December 2016, I submitted an online query to Telkom in this regard, but did not receive any feedback, other that confirmation of receipt.

On 18 December I was informed that my request to increase my LTE data was denied due to the outstanding ADSL account. I was told to phone 10210 to sort out the account first. I phoned 10210 on 19 December 2016 and was asked to forward the cancellation mail to ********** I did this and she told me that she would escalate the issue and that cancellations would contact me within 48 to 72 hours.

As they did not, I phoned the LTE department (081180) again on 22 December 2016 to find out whether they could assist with the cancellation. They could not and forwarded my call to the accounts department. They told me that I should perhaps talk to sales and forwarded me there. Sales told me that accounts should sort this out and forwarded me back to accounts. They then told me that my account was suspended and that I had to pay the outstanding amount first before they could lift the suspension. Cancellations could then cancel my contract and refund the amount to me. I told her that I was not willing to pay the outstanding amount as it is only outstanding because Telkom has not cancelled my ADSL contract. She then asked me to forward the cancellation mail to ********** I did this and she promissed to escalate the matter.

In the meantime I am without data and will have to buy additional data at a much higher rate than if my LTE data is increased.

Reviewer Update

I received a private message from the Telkom Social Media Team on 23 December 2016 in which they requested my ID number. I send a mail to the given e-mail address on 30 December 2016 and attached all the previous mails in this regard. This included a copy of my ID document.

On 16 January 2017 I received a mail from the Social Media Team requesting some of the information already included in my mail of 30 December 2016. I mailed these again on 16 January 2017. On the same day I received an sms from Telkom in which they stated that they are sad to see that I cancelled my ADSL.

I waited for further confirmation, but received nothing. I therefore mailed the Social Media Team again on 30 January 2017, requesting confirmation that the ADSL services were indeed cancelled, the effective date and whether the amounts charged were reversed.

I did not receive any reply and after receiving another invoice from Telkom on 16 February 2017 for ADSL services for February 2017, I send another mail requesting feedback. I have not received any feedback yet.

All I want is for Telkom to follow up on the promisses and to treat their customers fairly.
