LIT TV - Selling a product they don't know and refusing a refund

Went to the Telkom store in Canal Walk on 29/09/2017 and purchased the LIT TV media player/streaming device cash (debit card) for R1099. The LIT TV is advertised as having Android 7, and comes with Netflix, DSTV Now, Showmax, Youtube, etc. I arrived home and ran through the quick setup and connected to the internet successfully. As soon as the setup completed I noticed that none of the mentioned applications was pre-installed/missing. I then thought maybe I need to install them myself using Google Play Store, but even this was completely missing. No Youtube, no Play Store, no added apps besides the basic file browser and music/videp player to play local content. I even tried loading these apps by downloading the APK on another smartphone than trying to install using an SD card, to no avail. I struggled the whole night and the next morning after speaking to 3 different Telkom departments the conclusion was that they all weren't even aware of what the LIT TV was that Telkom is selling. Everyone I spoke to said they heard about it but they have not seen it or been trained on it so can't assist me, 2 and a half hours wasted on the phone that morning trying to get answers but Telkom does not even know what the LIT TV is. I went back to a Telkom store closest to me which is situated at Tygervalley mall. There I asked the consultant prior to explaining my issue if they are aware of that device the LIT TV is, what is advertised and also if they are selling it/have stock. To all these questions she answered yes. I then explained the situation and that it was false advertising as none of these applications were pre-installed and the device was running android 6.0.1 not 7 as advertised. She then said that they will need to book the device in and they will assess it and follow up with regards to this the following day. I was not happy, and I asked for a refund. She refused and said that is the only procedure, to book in the device. I advised that I paid cash and have 5 days to return the device for a refund as per the CPA. She still refused and I asked her to call her branch manager as he was not in store (Emile Du Preez). She spoke to him and he gave her 3 options to resolve this; 2 of which resulted in booking in the device and 1 to refund me (if they had enough petty cash available, which they did not..) and she then gave me only 2 options (the first two). I said I don't accept the first 3 options and I told her I heard the 3rd option and it is not my problem they do not have enough petty cash in store. I asked her to call him back and advise that I do not accept the first 2 options. She started arguing and became impatient with me, so I said to her that either she speaks to her manager or I will, in which case she called him back and he agreed that they suddenly had the authority and capability of refunding me on my credit card (not debit card/cash). After which a refund was made. She also mentioned originally that Emile also agreed that the device was never meant to be sold to me as this device with Android 6 was problematic and was recalled with a newer version. Please educate your consultants on the device as no one knows what LIT TV is, and also please ensure your consultants are well mannered and treat customers with respect as they are representing Telkom's image and the consultant has no authority to decide whether or not I may or may not have a refund on behalf of Telkom without consulting her superiors by following due process. Terrible service and I will stop recommending this device going forward.
