Telkom have recently launched the LIT_ media streamer, which is actually a fantastic little device once the bugs are ironed out. HOWEVER.... A large batch of the devices are crippled in that they have no Bluetooth capability, and only 2.5GHz wifi compatibility. The fully functional device has Bluetooth and can work on 5 GHz wifi bands. Telkom stores seem to be unaware of this issue, which is evident in all LIT_ boxes that have a serial number containing A06. I have been trying to get mine swapped out for a fully functional device (These have a serial number A07 or higher), but no Telkom Direct stores appear to have stock (I have visited 4 different Telkom stores for a total of 7 visits to resolve this). Why do I visit the shop? Because they do not answer their phone. Their policy as stated to me is not to answer a phone if a customer is in the shop - which is great for customers in the shop, but absolutely nightmarish for anyone trying to find out whether it would be a waste of time to go to the shop or not in the first place.
So Telkom - what is your plan to replace my crippled LIT_ with a fully functional one please? I am happy to take it pretty much anywhere in Gauteng to swap it out - but only if I'm guaranteed that when I arrive there I will not leave frustrated for the 8th time.
