Is your cellphone number really safe at Telkom Mobile?
On the 19th of June 2021, my cellphone number was sim swapped and R200 000 was ****** out of my account. I went to Telkom the next day to swap my number back onto a new sim.
The assistant informed me that they were having issues with staff who Rica new sims selling off customer data and sim swapping numbers for ********** to get access to your cellphone, and your (OTP) One Time Pin for a fee of course.
Your OTP provides ********** with the key to your bank accounts and life savings. Who is Telkom providing all this power to?
On the 20th June 2021 when I changed my number back, the staff logged a complaint. I asked Telkom only one question, who signed off the sim swap on my account?
Up until today I still haven’t got any feedback after numerous back and fourth emails with their ***** department and legal department. Everyone seems to be blaming the next person to provide me with feedback, which shows that they hiding information which can implicate them.
They should be held liable for the full amount and take responsibility for what occurred! I’ve been out of pocket by R200 000, including interest I could’ve earned for the last year! This has been emotionally and mentally draining thus far, how do I survive? What now?
So, is your number and money really safe with Telkom if they have access to your banks accounts? How are you going to protect your hard earned money if there are staff within Telkom providing ********** with access to your Telkom number, and therefore your OTP’s.
Do you really want to be put in my position?
So what are you going to do with this information?
