Internet Service Below Par

Telkom offers its clients contracts for the usage of their facilities and services. I have one for Internet Services. Initially when I signed up for a Home Uncapped (4 Mbps) it was at R599.00 per month and now it is R 654.10. Beginning September 2019, there was an increase of line rental and a reduction of the Discount figure I used to get. The main incentive I went into such contract was to enjoy the benefit of holding prices/rates for the duration of the contract. There was no inflationary clause I was made aware of, neither did they forewarn on the increase. The only exception would be increases of Statutory taxes/levies which the Service Provider, in this case Telkom; has control of. Any other cost(s) should be held as was on signing day. Alternatively, rates/cost change should be agreed by both parties preferably in writing as with all contractual agreements. Increases or any deviations from the agreed state of things should be treated as breach of contract. I would like Telkom to make right this breach without affecting my contractual service expectation.

The other disturbing aspect of this contract is Telkom new from onset that the Service will/can not give 4Mbps speed as sold because the line uses copper which is affected (loss of speed) by the by the distance between user and the exchange. The fastest I ever recorded was 2.7Mbps. When I raised this, I was advised there was nothing they could do otherwise downgrade to a slower speed at the same rate or migrate to another plan. Funny, I was expected to pay contract breaking fees if I had migrated. One would think, given the scenario created by Telkom, they would absorb the contract breaking fees and/or provide an alternative service (****le) within the parameters of the existing contract. Eish…………

I wish Telkom would care to listen, feel for its clients and where its as clear as daylight like my case climb down and make it right for the Client.
