Incorrect deductions from Account & False info at Experian

My husband (ID number supp**** below) took out a Telkom SmartPlan contract at Baywest Mall, Port Elizabeth in April 2016 for R374. He gave specific instructions for payment to be deducted on the 1st of the Month- the same day that our R399 Telkom SmartBroadband contract is deducted. The reason being that he only gest paid at the end of the month.

Telkom, contrary to instructions, attempted to deduct payment for these contracts on the 25th of the month, when obviously there was insufficient funds in the account. To his shock he received a message from Telkom that he was in arrears and that he would have to go to ABSA bank immediately to pay the arrears amount (since Telkom no longer provides payment facilities at their branches). So, he was forced to go out of his way to rectify an error made by Telkom.

On the way to the ABSA, before he could make the payment himself, Telkom suddenly deducts double the mount due for the Broadband contract (R399 x 2)+ R374 for the Cellphone contract from his account. They decided to take payment for this month and the next month! Also, Telkom added all kinds of reoccurring bundles that he didn't ask for thus totalling R1541, 53 taken unauthorised. My husband then received a penalty from the bank due his account balance falling below the minimum amount allowed. Not only does Telkom, disobey payment instructions, but they take more than they are permitted to take. (See Billing Account ***)

He was then forced to go to Baywest Branch to sort this mess out. We had to rectify the payment date on the system, remove the unwanted bundles and rectify the incorrect billing that had occurred. He thought the matter was sorted...but no...

Now he finds out that Telkom notified a credit bureau (Experian) that he is in arrears to the amount of R 1541, 53!! They already took the money out of his account. This is false information since we owe nothing on this account. He phoned Telkom customer care only to find out that they will only change the information at Experian in the next payment cycle. So he cannot clear his name of this for another month! This whole mess was their fault in the first place.

We are applying for a bond and this ****** up by Telkom is affecting our affordability to get our bond approved. Forcing us to wait for this to be rectified with Experian is unnacceptable.

This serves as a warning out to all consumers about Telkom's ************ dealing with accounts. If you don't keep an eye on them, they will be taking money unauthorised and branding you at the credit bureaus! It is shocking how incomptent Telkom has been as a service provider.
