*********** Telkom consultant and insufficient product knowlegde

To whom it may concern

On the 20th of February 2017 I purchased the February deal, which was the Huawei E5573 MiFi router, 5GB of anytime data, and 10GB of Night Surfer data (midnight to 07:00) for R149 per month for 24 months

The day I purchased the device I was explained by the consultant (whom I am able to identify) that: I will have 5 gig data to use during the day and 10gig night time data. The consultant also communicated to me that if I run out of data I can visit the store or any other Telkom store. I then made it clear that I will be happy with the 15gig as I only want to pay R150 as that is what I can afford! After that was made clear she called the call centre , I then spoke to an agent and I stated the exact same thing to her (I’m sure that telephone call was recorded and should be checked)

I recently received an invoice (invoice number: ********** 348) stating that I owe Telkom R1,640.27??!!! I was shocked when I saw that amount!! I visited the Telkom store yesterday (Adderley Street, corner of Strand Street, Cape Town) to query this only to find out that the consultant who assisted me on the 20th did not give me all the information of how this contract actually works. So in other words the deal was sold to me under false pretences. If I had known what I know now, I would not have taken the deal with Telkom

i.e the consultant who originally provided me with the information at the walk-in-counter at Adderley Street at approx. 12:30 on (20th Feb 2017) misrepresented the truth or did not fully understand the conditions of the “February Special” as presented to me by her.

I did not agree to a monthly contract of anything more than R150pm. The consultant who assisted me yesterday appeared to be much more knowledgeable about the deal that I purchased and explained it to me differently which explains why I have been billed for the amount in excess to what I had agreed to. No one at the store told me about the limit on the modem that needs to be set. So how can I be held liable for an error that was not made by me. I am not a consultant selling a product that I need to know the “ins and outs” of the product.

However I was informed after the fact and would not have entered an agreement that would have busted my budget. What good use is this to me now?

I left the store with more knowledge of the contract but no solution to my problem.

Unfortunately I will not be paying the money that Telkom is wanting from me as i was never made aware of the “knock-on” effect that this would have: re me typing this. You should provide proper training to your staff who sells your products. I refuse to pay that amount as I was misinformed by an *********** consultant in the first place (the first person I spoke to)!!!

I will not be held liable for the salesperson incompetence. If you persist and feel that I am to blame, then rather terminate my contract as I cannot do business with a company that misleads innocent customers in the aid of making a sale. I feel I cannot trust Telkom anymore.

Please can this matter be resolved and / or cancel the contract.
