I recently went to the Kolonnade Telkom store to get a new contract for my sister. I advised Shamaine Motshwene that I would like to add my sisters number to my account and get a new phone for her. I told her I was looking at getting the Samsung A21s. She told me they didn't have any stock but advised that there are other phones similar to the A21s. She asked what my budget was an I told her R300 per month. She proposed the Huawei P40 lite as it had more space and has dual Sim capabilities. I told her as long as it's within my budget we can go for it. She mentioned that it's on promotion and within my budget.

She advised that my sisters number can only be changed to the contract once my contract is active and I would have to come back to the store in a few days to have the benefits of the new contract transferred to my sisters number.

I went back to the store 3 days later and was advised that for my sister's number to be transferred to the contract I would have to come with her to do a change of ownership and then have the benefits added to the number. I was advised to come back in 3days when Shamaine was back on duty so she could finalize everything. But I was also advised that she could have done everything when we took out the contract as I was with my sister then.

I went back to the store with my sister to do the change of ownership 3 days later. She said they could have done it for me when I came to the store but I advised that my sister was not with me then as she had advised that I didn't have to come with my sister.

Anyway I asked her to do the change and convert my sisters number to the contract we just took out. She advised I could call customer care so they could do it for me but I said because I was already at the store she might as well do it. The whole time she was going around the store like a headless chicken. I mean if she could not do what I had asked then why didn't she just say so..

Finally one of the other consultants Martinique came to assist. We did everything that was required and we were advised that the Sim would be inactive for 24 to 48 hours and my sisters number would be a contract number.

It's been 4 days and nothing has happened.

This has been my worst experience with Telkom, and now I just found out that the contract is in fact a 24 month contract where I'll be paying R349 even though I specifically said to Shamaine that my budget was R300. Now I'm stuck with a contract that's above my budget and a number that I don't need
